Spring Adventures
Last week, under sunny skies and temps in the 60’s, MAP Environmental Inc. engaged with Outdoor Adventure Group and the regulatory agencies for a pre-application meeting at The Adventure Park in Virginia Beach. The meeting and pre-application dialogue involved the Adventure Group’s proposed new crossing of Owl Creek. Established in 2014, The Adventure Park (Park) built Owl Creek Landing (https://owlcreeklanding.com/).
In 2025, the applicant, Outdoor Adventure Group, now seeks to expand and build an additional bridge back across Owl Creek. The proposed suspension bridge, constructed of timber & cable and connected to the existing Canopy Walk, will allow guests to walk from Owl Creek Landing over the Creek and exit in the Adventure Park. As the proposed bridge traverses Owl Creek – a tidal waterway with adjacent tidal and non-tidal wetlands, the project will require Federal, State, and local approval prior to its construction.
The meeting attended by the US Army Corps of Engineers, Virginia Marine Resources Commission, Department of Environmental Quality, and City of Virginia Beach Wetlands and Chesapeake Bay Preservation Area Board staff, generated healthy conversation and good dialogue on the permitting requirements for the project. It also included a terrific tour of the Adventure Park, and a view of the existing crossing of Owl Creek, as well as the proposed additional crossing.

With a pending permit application in the Spring, the applicant (Outdoor Adventure Group) hopes to secure permits in the Summer, making way for the additional crossing before years end !
